We are living in a world that is driven by constant innovation in technology that we aren't even surprised when our toddler who can’t even speak yet is able to navigate devices better than most of us. But at what point does it get too much? Or will it ever get too much? The world is changing at a fast speed and the overload of stimulation that we deal with on a daily basis can sometimes be too much and too stressful. With the world at our fingertips, simplifying and slowing down can offer us a lot of peace we never knew we needed.
My usual ways of unplugging and de-stressing don’t require much to help me get through my day. I’m sure many of you can use a little peace and calmness, whether you are struggling at work, being a new mom and finding ways to balance your new life, or you just want to find a way to spend your “me time”.
These are the ways I unplug and manage my days,
The Sufi way would often be the first thing I seek, which is simply meditation, or in other words, dhikr. It has had such a positive impact in my life, and as an entrepreneur and a mom, meditation is one way for me to stay focused, and stay balanced in this world of uncertainties. It helps bring clarity and peace into my home which I love.
Essential Oil Diffusing
My one favourite oil that I love to diffuse is by Young Living, it’s called the Peace & Calming II. I could go on and on about this blend and it’s simply just wonderful. It instantly give me the sense of calmness I need, and almost every time I have it diffused, it has a way of making me stop in my tracks, and just take a few deep breaths in. I love how it has an uplifting effect on me and my family. Keeping my family healthy & positive is truly crucial to my personal overall wellness.
Music & Dance
There’s something about good music, and grabbing my husband to dance with me that has an overall beautiful effect on my mind, body & soul. Some relaxing, and or romantic tunes can really help shift my entire mood. It makes me happy, and most importantly, makes my family happy too. It allows us to enjoy each other’s company and brings us closer together.
I have loved painting from the moment I learnt how to hold a brush. And I have always loved painting alone in the study without any interruptions. I find it to be a great way for me to disconnect from everything else, and focus on the present. Painting almost always requires my full undivided attention; it gives me no choice but to unplug and focus only on the colours that I have at the tip of my brushes.
Taking a step back to recalibrate can definitely make you become more present in your life, and in turn, de-stress and find that inner peace you never knew you needed.
