Let’s take a minute to talk about our environment, simply because we need to!
Reducing our carbon footprint starts with our home and there are so many things that we can do to show our beautiful planet the love it deserves. Over the years, my family and I have been very conscious about ensuring that our home is more sustainable and environmentally friendly, and I wanted to share some of the things that we do with you.
Here are some things that we have done.
Reusable face masks
Use reusable face masks (instead of the disposable ones). There are a tonnes of pretty ones around. The fact that they can be washed and dried so easily makes them so much more worthwhile.
Reusable grocery bags
Reusable grocery bags are the way to go, we use canvas totes or paper bags for all our needs.
Reduce reuse recycle
We recycle all recyclable items like plastic & cans. We also recycle our clothes/ send them to charity.
Reduce your energy consumption
Living in a small apartment helps keep our energy usage low. We’re paying much less for electricity now compared to when we were living in a bigger house.
Save paper save trees
We think twice before printing anything, because almost everything can be shared online today.
Reusable water bottles
We keep our fridge stocked with reusable water bottles. They’re so easy to clean so there’s no excuse to not make the switch!
Green cleaning products
Get green cleaning products for your home, they’re much healthier, safer, and more sustainable. Earth friendly and chemical free products are almost in every store now, from wet wet wipes to dish soap and laundry detergent, there are just so many available options out there.
Reusable cleaning cloths
Use cloths instead of paper towels, you can get so much use out of a single cloth when it comes to cleaning spills, wiping your table and countertop, and picking up food. They are also so easy to wash and reuse.
What are plastic straws?
Reduce food waste
We try our best to reduce food waste by storing them properly; keeping our fridge extra clean, prepping meals ahead of time & freezing the rest if we don’t plan on having them anytime soon.
Spread the word
Preach! Share your knowledge and your passion for the environment with your family and friends. It’s important to let everyone know that they can each contribute to saving the environment and not feel totally helpless about it.
We must all come together in keeping our homes and our earth clean. Like I’ve mentioned in my previous post, the little things that you do at home may seem small, but they are very concrete & impactful.
