Nadeera is full time Syarie lawyer who works in Kuala Lumpur. She and her husband have recently welcomed a beautiful baby girl named Sarah Zahra. This is how she balances her work/life...
What’s your daily work schedule like?
I work as a Syarie lawyer at law firm in Kuala Lumpur. I have the flexibility to work from home and would go out mostly to attend court hearings and meetings when needed.
How do you manage childcare?
My husband and I have worked together to find an ideal schedule where either one of us will be home to take care of our baby during work hours. But as a mother, I have made sure that there is always a plan B in case of when both of us are required to head out to work at the same time. Alhamdulillah, my wonderful aunt has agreed to help out as and when we need her to.
What do you love about your current work set-up?
I love how I have the flexibility to manage my own work schedule (attending court hearings and meeting clients). But as a mom, I do feel the mummy-guilt for having to leave my baby at home when I have to work, but I am so thankful that my husband’s work also allows him to work from home. This enables him to look after our little one while I’m out. He takes really good care of our baby and I’m ever so grateful for that.
What do you love about being at home?
I really enjoy cooking for my family and praying together with husband.
How does your husband contribute to your work/life balance?
My husband is always giving his full support when I need it most, and helps out with the house chores and taking care of our baby.
Do you and your husband have time to hang out together?
As for now, since our baby is still a newborn, we would find time to bond and be together when our baby is asleep. Like watching a movie together (at home)
Do you have time for yourself? What do you do during that time?
Yes, I do, I usually go for cycling for about 30minutes like 2-3 times in a week.
What advice would you give to other moms who are struggling to find a work/life balance?
I feel that every mom leads a totally different life, and it would really depend on the type of work, and the environment that they are in. But whatever you do, try and enjoy every moment you have with your baby and take it a day at a time as a mother.
Do you ever wonder how other moms manage the work/life balance?
I do sometimes think about it, and I think most moms are in fact open about their struggles. Many moms I know often love to share their individual experiences and exchange notes with each other. No matter who they are, a housewife, a working mom, or even single moms, we are all just trying to get by and taking things one step at a time. That's just what's special about being a mom - we are always trying our best to provide only the best for our babies.
