Why Gratitude Is So Important

How often do you stop and smell the roses, and fully appreciate the beauty that surrounds you? When was the last time you said Thank you to a special someone, just for having them in your life?

Saying “thank you” doesn’t have to be the direct result of receiving a gift, a favour, or an act of kindness. It goes beyond the things we receive. It’s about recognising and acknowledging the people in our lives that completes us, and for making our lives better each day.

Think of all the love and unwavering support that you receive on a daily basis. It could be from your mom and dad, your partner, your children, your co-workers, or even from the barista who writes you little notes of encouragement on your cup. How often do we let them know how much their presence means to us?

The people that have supported you, uplifted you, and stood by your side no matter what. Those people deserve your appreciation. Show them how grateful you are for having them in your life.

William Arthur Ward once said, “Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it”. So let’s give out those gifts, and acknowledge all the caring, generous people around us. This in return, will strengthen the bond you have with them, and possibly leave a positive impact in their lives knowing that they have done some good in this world.

Giving them a surprise “thank you for being you!” out of the blue can totally brighten up their day. It will make you feel good about making someone’s day too. If you can’t express your gratitude in person, make that phone call and put a smile on their faces.

Let’s live life to the fullest and be grateful for the life that we have. This life is too precious to be wrapping gifts and not giving them out. So, for all your happy days, give thanks. And for all your tough times, find your way back to gratitude for all the lessons learnt, for the perspective, for the strength to persevere, and for the people who stick around.

To you, my readers, thank you for supporting me in my journey to blogging. Without you, I wouldn’t be here today doing what I love most.
